The process of going Blonde

The process of going Blonde

I wanted to talk about the process of going blonde because until you do it, it is a process that you really can’t fully grasp. As lot of you know I myself transitioned from a dark brown rooty balayage to platinum blonde in 2015. Not only am I glad I did it because I think blonde suits me best, but also because I truly understand the process, and I feel that if I am going to be doing this to someones hair I should understand it by experience.

A few months ago one of my friends came to me wanting to go blonde, much like Khloe Kardashian is now. My friends hair was dark drown, a level 2-3 for those of you that know what I am talking about. Her number one concern was if it was going to damage her hair. Of course it is going to damage her hair, but I explained to her if we do it over the course of several sessions it would be fine. You can see that we never cut her hair, even by the third time it was still in amazing condition. She also wanted it to have a rooty look so that there wouldn’t be to much up keep. This meant not coloring her blonde all the way to the root all over.

The number one thing I wanted her to understand was that it was not going to be what she wanted or had in mind the first time around. This is because she wanted to be Khloe Kardashian blonde, but like I said it would take several sessions. I told her to not focus on the Khloe Kardashian blonde just yet, and to just enjoy what you get between now and then.

I look back at pictures in between my dark brown rooty balayage to when I finally had platinum blonde hair, and wish I had realized how good the in-between colors were, and wish I could of just enjoyed them instead of hating them for not being platinum blonde.

Below are pictures of the process my friend and I have had the past few months getting her blonde, in the order it was done. Both of us could not be more pleased with the results we have gotten. The whole thing has exceeded the expectations we set together, we spent lots of time texting about it and having a plan before we actually did it. The last two pictures is two months since we have last done it. She says that she wants to leave it this way for a while before going any blonder because she has enjoyed this “in-between” so much. I am loving the in between colour that she is sticking with at the moment! I too am a dark rooty brown and have been considering going blonde for a while – I never actually get past thinking about it though!

You should definitely give it a try! I think it looks great on everyone, and I am so into the rooty look right now. Blonde is a great way to freshen up your hair 🙂

Her hair is so gorgeous and you’re right, it doesn’t look like it’s been damaged by the process so far!! <3

I love her hair! I recently went from dark brown to blonde to pink, which is a bit of a journey!

      Milly,

Thank you & wow, that sounds like quite a journey, but that is awesome 🙂 I don’t know that I could be brave enough to put color on my hair once I got it to blonde, seems like so much work just to put another color back on it, but definitely necessary if you want something like pink 🙂 I love people brave enough to color their hair colors as such!

This is handy to know! I hated the press of going blonde and gave up in the end, I dyed my hair back to my natural dark brown colour because I had no idea what I was doing or how long it took! She has beautiful hair!! I love the end result, so pretty!

      Sarah,

Yes, it can be a hard long process, but worth it. Always go to a professional stylist when trying to do this

Not that the blonde doesn’t look great, but I really love those in between colours!

I would love to go blonde, but I am not sure it would suit me. I currently just bleach the ends of my hair and colour it pink! 😀 x

      Olivia,

You should go for it! I think blonde looks great on anyone, its all about getting the shade right for your skin tone; ashy, warm, neutral, ect. Ask a stylist you trust, or research the different tones to decide which you like best.

Yes, it is a journey! I love the middle shade best. I went from a dark blonde/wheat germ shade to red many years ago, and boy, that was a struggle at first. I had it done in a salon but my hair turned a pinkish shade. Next, I went to Vidal Sassoon in London and the colorist there nailed it. It took him 3 processes to get it but the color was to die for. I have been a Sassoon loyalist ever since. But red hair is so hard to maintain especially in summer. Worth it though

      Allison,

Wheat blondes are always so pretty, I used to be that shade before I got platinum. Red is always stubborn so I can imagine, I feel like it would be awesome to be able to visit Vidal Sassoon in London! Props to you for sticking with the red!

What a gorgeous colour! It looks really natural on her too. xx

      Sarah,

Thank you very much, natural was our goal!

It looks gorgeous and actually looks really healthy and natural too.

Thank you so much, she does have very healthy hair.

I LOVE the end result. My hair is very dark brown and I went blonde a few years back, took me about 9 months to achieve the finished look x

    • Kaitlynnycole September 19, 2016 5:34 pm

      Jo,

Thank you, we love it too! Nine months sounds about right for someone with dark brown hair if you don’t won’t to damage your hair. Glad you did it the right way 🙂

This couldn’t have come at a better time! I’m thinking of going blonde, and while I’ve already started with an ombre dye and highlights, I needed the reality check that my hair probably won’t look like I want it to the first time around. And I’ll try and love those in-between colors while I get to where I want to be. Fantastic post! xx

    • Kaitlynnycole September 19, 2016 5:32 pm

      Megan,

I’m so glad you came across this article! An ombre and highlights is a great way to transition to blonde, it will take time so just be patient, and enjoy your hair along the way. I’m so excited for you to be blonde!
